When it comes to products for our Mini, obviously we always want to choose the best. However, sometimes there are so many options that we feel overwhelmed... and even when we reach a conclusion, there is always someone's opinion that raises doubts again!
In the case of pacifiers , in addition to their shape, size, brand and color, there is also the issue of the material itself. Is it better to choose Silicone or Latex pacifiers? Discover the differences!
Latex pacifiers, recognizable by their yellowish color, deserve the preference of many mothers and fathers as they are a material of natural origin, composed mainly of water and rubber (from the rubber tree). It is a resistant, soft, elastic material and, to begin with, it is a more environmentally friendly material compared to silicone.
Being of natural origin also means that it is a material prone to causing allergies . Furthermore, it is subject to wear and tear from use and sterilization, having less resistance to heat and sunlight. After some time, pacifiers may become more brittle, or even stickier – which clearly indicates that they need to be replaced!
In silicone pacifiers, the teat material is transparent. It is a synthetic material, frequently used in medical contexts for its properties: In addition to being colorless, it is odorless, tasteless and due to its high resistance to light and heat, it can be sterilized numerous times without being damaged. These aspects give it long-lasting durability.
However, compared to latex, it is a less malleable material, which can break or puncture more easily. When subjected to a Mini's small (but sharp) teeth, the integrity of the pacifier should be regularly checked to ensure that no pieces come loose.
Whatever your choice of material, the general recommendation is that pacifiers should be replaced after 1-2 months to ensure hygiene and safety.
